Human beings live in a place -rural or urban- where respecting the environment is a duty of every citizen.

People modify the environment with their activities: cutting down trees, burning fuel, cultivating the land. Being in the billions and having a lot of technology, these modifications can be important and affect all ecosystems.

The relationship of men and nature is a matter of cost and benefit; it is - or should be - a matter of reason and not of ideology.

The environment is a complex concept; the interdependence of the parties does not allow the marginalization of any of them, since there is a risk of damaging the system, as is often the case. These parts are three: the natural environment, the sociocultural environment and the built or tangible environment.

A city is a place built by man for his comfort, it has its advantages, although nature is, to a large extent, absent. Only parks, river banks, pets, and sometimes rodents, insects, and arachnids (spiders) remind us of nature.

The concept of environment today, by pragmatism more than by definition, is political; It is up to the polis and it should matter to each one, living in the city and knowing how to do it, seeking a balance between the subsystems that compose it.

The Autonomous City of Buenos Aires buries more than 6,000 tons of garbage daily in sanitary landfills, located in the Buenos Aires suburbs; of them only 30% are treated correctly, in a formal way; the rest is distributed among one of the hundred clandestine open-air dumps, which become a source of environmental contamination of water and water sources, receptors of hazardous waste, where rodents swarm with the danger of diseases such as the bubonic plague. Everything results from a lack of policies, sometimes due to laziness or incapacity. What actions could be taken? Use the residue of tea, mate or coffee as fertilizer for plants at home or coffee residues to produce edible mushrooms or transform thistles, where they grow as weeds, into chemical products for different uses.

Localities should take advantage of the resources they have available to add them up and transform them into useful goods, without damaging the environment and perhaps as a job opportunity.

And what can the citizen do to find a solution to the problem? One formula for waste management is the reuse of it. That is, to teach people that many things they throw away can be useful to others. And teach them, in addition, to improve their behavior towards the environment, such as not burning garbage in the gutters or in the yard or garden; separate it so that the waste collector deposits it in the proper place. If a neighbor burns the garbage, talk to him and explain that by doing so he hurts himself and us and above all, putting himself at the service of solving problems, instead of joining the people who criticize without doing anything about it.
