Philippine authorities claim to have smashed the world record for the most trees planted in an hour, grounding 3.2 million seeds, last weekend.

The government officially claims to have broken the previous record for the most trees planted in an hour set by India in 2011, but certification will not be for about 18 weeks, which is the time it will take for Guinness World Records to confirm.

160,000 people were needed to make this reforestation campaign a success. The trees planted on the island of Mindanao, in addition to reforesting, will serve to improve the economy of the area since many of these trees will produce cocoa, coffee and cork.

This immense achievement is part of a program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources whose goal is to plant 8.8 million trees this year.
